Model DS-100 · Medical device in conformity assessment

Technology and specifications

A control unit with touchscreen, two independently controlled applicators, a frequency range of 10 to 150 hertz (Hz). This page explains what that means in the treatment room: in full, with verifiable facts and without superlatives.

Operating principle

What happens in the tissue

DuoSonic generates controlled mechanical oscillations between 10 and 150 Hz. These are transmitted directly to intact skin via a hand-held applicator, without coupling gel and without pressure. The oscillation stimulates muscles, fascia, connective tissue and mechanoreceptors.

Its defining feature is a small amplitude combined with steep edges: a sonic stimulus, rich in harmonics, that travels along bone, tendons and fascia. As a result, a single contact point reaches a considerably larger area than the contact surface itself.

Control unit with touchscreen, small and large applicator. Use the built-in body map to select the muscle and trigger point directly, and the device then suggests suitable parameters.

In context

Not another ultrasound device. A modality of its own.

Therapeutic ultrasound operates in the megahertz range, far above what mechanoreceptors respond to. Patients do not notice the treatment, and a coupling gel is needed. Shockwave therapy sits at the other end: focused, high-energy, with a single pulse per trigger. There is a gap between the two.

DuoSonic fills it: a continuous oscillation within the physiological stimulus range, delivered via two applicators, which patients can feel and hear, while remaining completely painless, including on joints, the neck and the face. It does not replace anything; it adds a treatment to your practice’s range that you cannot offer today, and a new option for patients who do not tolerate shockwave therapy or do not respond to it.

Frequencies compared

Frequency ranges compared Logarithmic scale from 1 hertz to 10 megahertz. The physiological stimulus range of the mechanoreceptors lies roughly between 10 and 150 hertz. The DuoSonic covers this range in steps of 10 hertz. Therapeutic ultrasound operates at 1 to 3 megahertz, far outside this range. STIMULUS RANGE 1 Hz 10 Hz 100 Hz 1 kHz 10 kHz 100 kHz 1 MHz 10 MHz DuoSonic · 10–150 Hz Handheld devices: a few fixed levels Therapeutic ultrasound · 1–3 MHz

Logarithmic scale. The physiological stimulus range refers to the frequency range in which cutaneous mechanoreceptors are stimulated.

Controls

Six parameters. One screen.

Everything you adjust during a treatment is on the main screen. No submenus, no scrolling, no week-long learning curve.

1

Frequency

From 10 to 150 Hz in 10 Hz steps, via slider or plus/minus buttons.
Typical settings: 10–30 Hz for deep tissue stimulation, 30–70 Hz for reducing muscle tone, 60–70 Hz for superficial and sensitive regions, 100 Hz for pain modulation.

2

Intensity

Controls the amplitude and thus the strength of tissue stimulation. Treatment always starts at low intensity and is increased according to the patient’s comfort and the therapeutic goal.

3

Dynamic Mode

During treatment, the device automatically varies the frequency around the set target value. This counteracts habituation of the receptors and increases the variability of the treatment. The system adapts to different tissue properties.

4

Treatment depth: Soft / Deep

Soft: gentle oscillation profile for sensitive regions and superficial structures. Deep: higher energy input for deep muscles, chronic tension and trigger points.

5

Applicator selection

Large for the back, thigh and gluteal muscles as well as large muscle groups.
Small for hands, feet, face and small anatomical structures. Each can be controlled individually.

6

Timer & programs

The timer ends the treatment automatically after the set duration, standardizing treatment times across practitioners. Predefined programs for common musculoskeletal indications are also available; the body map stores starting values for each muscle.

Details on treatment duration, session frequency and length of a treatment course can be found under Clinical use, and an overview of contraindications under Safety.
